In 1941 the USA formally entered World War 2. This location was a support facility, constructed in less than 2 years and at its peak employing over 20,000 people. It had an active lifespan of about 19 years, from groundbreaking until being turned over to the State. Today much of it has been converted to industrial use or wildlife, but many of the 1000+ structures remain.
